Biography
Henry Selick is a celebrated American animator who specializes in stop motion. Selick attended Rutgers University, Syracuse University and St. Martin’s School of Art before enrolling in the character animation program at CalArts. While enrolled at CalArts, Selic studied alongside John Lassiter, John Musker and Brad Bird and produced the award winning student films PHASES and TUBE TALES.
After finishing school Selick began work at Walt Disney Studios where he contributed to projects including THE FOX AND THE HOUND (1981). In 1986 he founded Selick Productions, a production company that specialized in branding television networks including MTV.
He made his debut as a feature director with THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRITMAS (1993), a collaboration with Tim Burton. Selick’s other feature credits include JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH (1996) and CORALINE (2009).
